The Sisterhood is Global Institute in Jordan, in cooperation with the ABA, held a number of awareness sessions in July on TIP for lawyers in Ramtha, Mafraq and Shouneh Janoubieh, in addition to sessions for a number of local CSOs in Sahab, Ajloun and Jerash, and a number of universities, including Philadelphia University, Israa University, Tafileh University and Al Hussein University. The Institute also organized an awareness session at the Women’s Union.

The Institute also in cooperation with the ABA organization on Tuesday, July 12th at the Institute’s headquarters in Amman, a round table discussion on TIP. The session targeted home worker recruitment offices and aimed to raise awareness and knowledge of international conventions and laws relevant to TIP, in addition to introducing citizens to the Jordanian law on TIP and over viewing cases of trafficking.

The ABA also organized an awareness workshop on July 21st for the Family Protection Directorate in Irbid.

The National Center for Human Rights, in cooperation with the American Bar Association held an awareness session for Jordanian journalists on July 14th. The session was patronized by General Commissioner of Human Rights HE Dr. Muhiddin Touq who started the session with welcoming remarks. The workshop was attended by journalists representing various media outlets in Jordan.

The ABA is working with the Public Security Directorate to issue a brochure on TIP targeting home worker recruitment officers in addition to another brother targeting offices in border points and security stations to raise the awareness of several society sectors on this crime.

The ABA also cooperated recently with the National Center for Human Rights to launch a media awareness campaign on TIP with awareness bulletins to be published in newspapers and broadcast on radio and television as well as SMS messages and emails.

Work is currently under way at the ABA to issue a TIP Guide for judges and public prosecutors in addition to a curriculum that will be used at the Judicial Institute.

Finally, a brochure is being prepared in cooperation with the Unit to Combat TIP at the Criminal Investigation Department at the Public Security Directorate on the same topic.
